Part 2: Install EL Wire On Keyboard

Step7: Use a flat blade screw driver to gently pry the keys off of the keyboard. Arrange the keys in the order you removed them so they will be easy to replace.

Step 8: Decide how you want to route the EL Wire. The 5V inverter can only power 4 feet of EL Wire. To cover the entire keyboard would require 6 to 10 feet depending on how it was routed and the type of keyboard.

Step 9: Apply a small amount of Super Glue every few inches to hold the EL wire flat in place. Be careful not to spill any Super Glue on the buttons! Holes will need to be drilled to route between the sections of the keyboard. I drilled a hole from each side of a barrier and fed the wire through. ( I made a mistake on the arrow keys, the end cap would not fit above the arrows, so I had to re-drill and route across the bottom)

Step 10: I decided to hide the end cap  under the Space Bar since it was hollow. I suggested to Neon Trim that the end cap was hard to deal with, so they are going to start using hot glue or silicon rubber to seal the end of the tube instead of the cap.

Step 11: Start replacing the keys and check for clearance. I had to sand the bottom of a few keys to obtain enough clearance for easy operation.

Finished. Time to enjoy some ownage at the next LAN party!

Many thanks to Eric Smith of Carrollton, Texas for this fabulous how-to guide!
